Welcome to the Yellow Room
3-5 year-old Preschool for All/Project Child Classroom
Yellow Classroom Happenings
We have been doing many new things in the Yellow room. We learned about Fall, pumpkins and fire safety. The children loved the visit from the fire department. They watched us to see if we did our fire drill corrrectly. They loved seeing the fire truck and asking lots of questions. We loved our field trip to Relleke farm and making our very own pumpkin pie in a bag. It was yummy! They also loved hammering golf tees into a pumpkin-great fine motor work! Speaking of fine motor, remember to give your child some scissor time at home.
We are excited to say that we are going to start a project on animals in the next few weeks. The children are always talking about different animals, so we are going to see what we can explore with animals! We will also be talking about things we are thankful for.
Please remember to send a coat with your child on cool days. In case of inclement weather, please watch Channel 2 or Channel 5 for Discovery School closings.
Parent-Teacher conferences are November 8th and 9th for our classroom. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board outside our classroom. Each conference will last 20 minutes. Classes will not be in session on those days; however, extended day children may attend as usual.
The O’Fallon Public Library will visit our room on Tuesday, November 21st at 1:00. You are all invited to attend. They will read the children a book about Thanksgiving, sing some songs and do a craft with them. Hope to see you there!
Saying Goodbye to Ms. Maria
Ms. Maria will not be returning after Thanksgiving break. She will be staying home to take care of her new baby, Nora, after she is born. We wish her and her family the best. We will miss having Ms. Maria in the yellow room. Ms. Lynn will be returning to Discovery to take over Maria’s position. Lynn is a wonderful teacher who had previously worked at Discovery for 12 years. I am very excited to have Lynn join our classroom.
Ms Kristi earned her B.A. in Early Childhood Education from SIUE. She has taught at numerous preschools and 1st grade. She and her husband, Blake, have two children, Blake Jr, and Peyton. Peyton is a Discovery School graduate. She substitute taught at Discovery starting in 2011 and is thrilled to teach here. She loves to watch children explore on their own and see what they discover. Hands-on learning is the key to a happy preschooler!
Ms. Maria has been at discovery for three years. Ms. Maria has earned her associates degree in early childhood education from SWIC. She began her career at Discovery by doing her student teaching, then she became a sub, then was hired on as an associate teacher. Working with kids is an adventure and it’s so fun to see them grow throughout the year.
